General Catalyst solidified its role as a disrupter within the healthcare venture capital space in 2021, when Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare sold its PatientKeeper technology to General Catalyst portfolio company Commure. In 2022, the firm continued to make waves within the medtech and healthcare industry. 

General Catalyst’s portfolio of medtech startups includes Aidoc, Cadence, Color, Livongo, OM1, Olive, Osmind, Ro and Sword Health. 

 

Here are the five biggest General Catalyst stories from 2022:

 

  1. In August, Marc Harrison, MD, left his role as president and CEO of Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare to run a healthcare platform business for General Catalyst. 
  2. General Catalyst partnered with Intermountain in May to accelerate the shift to value-based care through digital innovation. 
  3. Redesign Health, an incubator of new healthcare companies, raised $65 million in a series C financing round led by General Catalyst in September. 
  4. The firm partnered with its first global health system through a digital innovation agreement with Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the U.K.’s largest hospital system.
  5. In February, former Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health CEO Stephen Klasko, MD, joined General Catalyst as an executive-in-residence.
