From Friday 1 April sexual health services in Stockport will be provided by Locala Health and Wellbeing as part of a new contract with Stockport Council and Tameside Council

Although new to providing services in the North West, Locala has provided sexual health services in West Yorkshire for more than 10 years.

In Stockport, sexual health services will continue to be provided at the Choices Centre in Stockport. This all-age service will provide advice on all sexual health issues and conditions, plus contraception provision, treatment of STIs, condom distribution, and particular guidance and support for under 18s. Services will be run through clinics, and a range of face-to-face and telephone appointments.

Jennifer Connolly, Director of Public Health, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council said: “Locala Health and Wellbeing is an important new provider for Stockport. They bring expertise in providing sexual health services, as well as innovation, flexibility, and the ethos of community support and development.”

Locala Chief Executive, Karen Jackson, said: “We are delighted to be taking our experience of providing sexual health services across the Pennines to Stockport and Tameside, and welcoming our new colleagues to the Locala Team.”

Locala Health and Wellbeing is a member owned, not-for-profit social enterprise that provides NHS community healthcare services. As well as providing high quality healthcare services, Locala also has a focus on developing and supporting work in local areas with many community projects having benefitted from Locala’s support over the years – something that will be also now happening in Stockport and Tameside.
