RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Plenty of technology and life science events and program deadlines are coming up across North Carolina in February. Several events will be held in person or in a hybrid format, while many others remain virtual.

Building on WRAL TechWire’s ongoing work tracking important events and deadlines across North Carolina, here’s a look at what’s to come in February 2023:

Held every week, 1 Million Cups Charlotte features a presentation from a local startup followed by a Q&A from the community.

Entrepreneurs in Fayetteville are welcome to attend 1 Million Cups every Wednesday to present their ventures and meet other founders in the area.

Application Deadline: NCBiotech Translational Research Grants

Feb. 1, 12 p.m.

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s Translational Research Grant program provides funding for projects exploring/developing commercial applications for university-held life science inventions. Applications for the next funding cycle are live.

Fix Your Brand’s Social Media SEO Through Analytics & Automation

Feb. 1, 1-2 p.m. (online)

This virtual lunch and learn will offer ways to stay engaged in social media and online trends through automated content ideation, creation and distribution.

Health Innovation Pitch Day

Feb. 1, 4:30-8:30 p.m. @AvidXchange

Hosted by the Kepler Team, Novant Health Innovation Lab and RevTech Labs, this event will feature pitches from six digital health startups in front of an expert panel specializing in healthcare and investments. Networking will follow.

NC IDEA Spring 2023 Grants Information Session: Charlotte

Feb. 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m. @UNC Charlotte PORTAL Building

NC IDEA is hosting a statewide series of information sessions covering its upcoming grant opportunities for North Carolina startups: MICRO ($10,000) and SEED ($50,000). Join to learn more about the programs and how to apply. Applications close on Feb. 27.

2023 Carolinas Energy Conference

The 2023 Carolinas Energy Conference will cover various facets of the South Carolina and North Carolina energy economies. Discussions will center around the theme “Capitalizing on the Energy Transition.”

Coffee & Conversation with Charlotte Business Group

The Charlotte Business Group will host members and guests for connections over coffee. Note: Space is limited, so registration is required.

NC TECH’s 2023 Outlook for Tech

Feb. 3, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. @UNCC Marriott Hotel & Convention Center

This annual half-day conference is packed with trend analysis, economic forecasts and insights on the future of tech. It will also serve as the release of NC TECH’s yearly “State of the Technology Industry” report.

FSPV: Fundamentals of Solar PV Design & Installation

Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 @NCCETC Module 5 Training Room

This 40-hour course will cover the basics of designing and installing photovoltaic systems, with an optional hands-on installation day taking place after the online program.

CIO Executive Roundtable

In this session, IT leaders at NC TECH member companies will discuss relevant topics and developments in their field.

Downtown Techies Raleigh Happy Hour

Taking the Leap

Offered by the Small Business and Technology Development Center, Taking the Leap is a free four-week cohort covering the ins and outs of starting a business, including identifying target markets, writing business plans, running finances and brand marketing.

Code for Durham: Civic Hacking Session

Feb. 7, 7 p.m. (online)

Code for Durham brings together technologists, designers, developers, data scientists, map makers and activists to collaborate on civic technology projects. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Applications are live for the 12th cohort of Mountain BizWorks’ ScaleUp program, which features eight educational sessions, 10 hours of one-on-one mentorship, promotion opportunities and more.

Application Deadline: NC IDEA SEED & MICRO Grants

Feb. 27, 5 p.m.

Applications are live for NC IDEA’s two flagship grant programs serving North Carolina tech startups: NC IDEA MICRO (small, project-based grants of $10,000) and NC IDEA SEED ($50,000 for startups with a proven concept). Apply by 5 p.m. EST.
