Premium positioning: Fonterra seeks to capture South East Asia’s cultured milk drink market with new launch

Fonterra has launched its first brand of cultured milk drinks branded Nurture in Singapore. 

The new line is part of the dairy giant’s strategy in driving innovation around its dairy products, with South East Asia a region of interest.

Human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) is one of the hottest and most commonly seen ingredients in Vietnam’s infant formula products these days, according to Vietnam homegrown firm Vinamilk and Hong Kong-headquarted Health & Happiness Group (H&H Group). 

H&H Group entered the Vietnamese infant formula market only in June this year, while Vinamilk’s Optimum Gold and Dielac Alpha Gold were the key sales engine for the firm’s infant formula portfolio.

Iron it out: Nestle and Wellnex Life on how new tech is propelling iron nutrition innovation

The iron nutrition sector could move ahead by using a new source of iron, as well as using encapsulation technology to enable the slow release of iron supplements in the body, according to Nestle and Wellnex Life. 

Wellnex Life, for example, has developed slow release iron gummies under the brand The Iron Company, while Nestle has launched BUNYAD Iron+ for children in Pakistan.

Fonterra enters cognitive performance supplement market with new brand – WATCH​ 

New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra has launched BioKodeLab – a supplement brand aimed at improving cognitive performance.

Consisting of three product SKUs, namely Focus Plus, Calm Plus, and Probiotic Plus, the products are exclusively sold via the direct-to-consumer channel in New Zealand.

Fast and furious: Wellnex Life in race to be one of Australia’s early pharmacy OTC cannabidiol winners​​

Wellnex Life said it was preparing to register its over the counter medicinal cannabis product with the Australian authorities in what it hoped to be one of the first in the country.

In Australia, schedule 3 medicinal cannabis is a nascent market, with the regulator, Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) permitting schedule 4 cannabidiol (CBD) to be downscheduled to schedule 3 less than two years ago.

Maternal health innovation: Probiotics and algal oil DHA help move market on from multivits – WATCH

The maternal health dietary supplements category has diversified with the introduction of products containing probiotics and algal oil DHA – although multivitamins and folic acid remain the mainstays.

German-based Mom’s Garden, for example, has developed Prenatal Bird’s Nest DHA – a chewable soft gel containing algal oil DHA and sialic acid from edible bird’s nest. The product is currently sold in China.
