Walmart has emerged as a massive healthcare disruptor and the retail giant made some major healthcare moves in 2022.
The five biggest healthcare moves Walmart made in 2022:
- Walmart heir Alice Walton’s foundation partnered with Fayetteville, Ark.-based Washington Regional Medical System to build a new healthcare system serving northwest Arkansas.
- Walmart became one of many pharmacies, along with CVS and Walgreens, to block or delay prescriptions from clinicians working with online telehealth companies that treat ADHD. Pharmacies expressed concern that some online telehealth companies were prescribing stimulants with little oversight.
- In January, Marcus Osborne, a senior executive at Walmart Health, left the company.
- The company launched a medical research institute designed to improve the diversity of clinical trials on treatments for chronic conditions and include members of underserved communities in treatment.
- In April, Walmart Health opened five new clinics in Florida. The clinics provide primary care, labs, X-rays, behavioral health, dental, optical, and hearing services.
