The Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic biostatistician with strong analytical skills and experience to contribute to the work of the Diagnostic Informatics stream of the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research, Australian Institute of Health Innovation, including participation in a recently awarded 5-year NHMRC Partnership Project in Digital Health.

The successful candidate will be required to develop and apply statistical models and methods and undertake data processing and statistical analyses of complex health services, acute care and primary care, and observational datasets. They will provide advice about, and participate in, the design of analysis strategies for a range of research studies, including the analysis of large administrative health datasets and prepare research publications, presentations and grant applications.

The Centre has particular expertise in assessing the impact of information technologies and investigating the role of electronic health records and decision support in supporting improved health care delivery and health outcomes. The Centre’s research team is multi-disciplinary and applies a broad range of research techniques, from RCT designs to direct observational studies of clinical work.

Common Selection criteria (all levels)

  • PhD in statistics or biostatistics
  • Demonstrable experience in processing complex health data sets, including data cleaning, and manipulation, and/or previous experience in data linkage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, health care providers and recipients, and external stakeholders
  • Experience and interest in applied healthcare research and knowledge of the Australian health care system
  • Demonstrated experience in making a contribution to the academic life and administrative tasks of a team with a track record of effective teamwork and leadership

Level A Postdoctoral Research Fellow (in addition to common criteria above)

  • Demonstrable experience in statistical modelling and analysis skills with experience using statistical packages, such as SAS, R, Python or STATA
  • Experience using and analysing a range of different types of linked health datasets
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications

Level B Research Fellow (in addition to common criteria above)

  • Demonstrable advanced statistical modelling and analysis skills with extensive experience with statistical packages such as SAS, R, Python or STATA
  • Proficiency in complex generalised linear models and mixed effects models analysis
  • Experience using and analysing a range of different types of linked health datasets
  • A strong research track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to research grant funding applications
