GE Healthcare, today announced the launch of its first ‘Made in India’, ‘AI-powered’ Cath lab – Optima IGS 320 to advance cardiac care in India. Built at Wipro GE Healthcare’s new factory launched under the PLI (production linked incentive) scheme in Bengaluru, the Cath lab leverages the GE proprietary auto right technology.
In India, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) still contribute to 60 per cent of all deaths, of which, 82 per cent occur due to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), chronic respiratory diseases, cancer, and diabetes. It is also noted that the younger generation, below 40 years of age, is increasingly affected by CVDs. While interventional cardiology is a promising solution, there are gaps in terms of access to reliable and intelligent technologies that can support precise and rapid decision-making given the critical nature of the procedures. There is also a growing shift in preference among patients for minimally invasive procedures, that limit the size and number of incisions. This new generation of interventional imaging software in Optima IGS 320 enables clinical versatility to guide sophisticated non-invasive procedures with greater precision. Automating the typically complex process with AutoRight helps reduce the burden on interventionalists and may increase their attention on the procedure.
Dr. Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare said, “At Wipro GE Healthcare our mission is to move from health care to healthy aging and that can be accomplished with predictive, preventative, personalised medicine. The rising complexity of patient profiles and shifting disease patterns is making the need for personalised care even more vital and Artificial Intelligence solutions have the potential to transform the patient care pathway. With our ‘Made in India’ AI-enabled Cathlab, we aim to drive intelligent imaging to support cardiologists and patients with customised treatment protocols and therapies and enable access to quality healthcare across all of India.”
Srikanth Suryanarayanan, Head – Imaging, GE Healthcare South Asia said, “With Optima IGS320, we bring to market an imaging innovation that reflects the future of healthcare. This ‘industry-first’ Cath lab has a new generation of interventional imaging software that enables clinical versatility to guide sophisticated, non-invasive procedures with greater precision and reduced risk. Our aim is to reduce the burden on interventionalists, increasing their attention on procedures, so that they can utilise every second to bring their clinical expertise to treating patients.”
Padma Shri Dr. CN Manjunath, Professor of Cardiology & Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiac Sciences & Research, Bangalore said, “Coronary disease is highly prevalent, affecting roughly 8 per cent of the population. Addressing this, cost-effective and quality cardiac care is critical. However, it is only possible when the healthcare industry manufactures innovative medical equipment. Cardiac cath labs form the heart of a hospital and are evolving in line with disease prevalence. For instance, 50 to 60 per cent of cardiac procedures which were previously treated by surgery can today be treated by non-surgical methods in the Cath lab. With its Cath lab, Wipro GE Healthcare is helping less invasive heart care solutions reach the last mile.”
Designed for cardiac and electrophysiology procedures, Optima IGS320 advances visualisation across imaging to support intelligent and precision healthcare delivery. It enables flexibility during operations by enabling friendly gantry movement. Moreover, with intuitive and advanced features like the PCI ASSIST, the Cath lab also enhances image quality that may guide stent placement with increased accuracy. This may reduce complications and empower physicians to conduct complex procedures with confidence.
Earlier this year, Wipro GE Healthcare launched its next-generation Revolution Aspire CT (Computed Tomography) scanner – the first product that was designed and manufactured end-to-end in India, at the newly launched Wipro GE Healthcare Medical Devices Manufacturing plant. Optima IGS320 is the second product being launched at the new factory. Wipro GE Healthcare continues to deepen its commitment to cardiac care in India and advance patient centricity with precision health.
