Continued partnership with Medilink UK
The continued partnership between Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Medilink UK delivered two highlights to the show: the conference and the awards ceremony on the evening of day one. The awards saw us celebrate the outstanding business achievements, international successes and innovative breakthroughs made across the life sciences and healthcare technology sectors in the past year.
The Med-Tech Innovation Conference, in association with Medilink UK, presented a world-class, CPD-accredited programme offering thought leadership from the sector’s biggest names from Microsoft, Roche Diagnostics, Department for International Trade, Deloitte, NIHR and more.
Professor Martin Levermore MBE DL, chair of Medilink Midlands said: “Medilink UK is pleased to be working in partnership with Rapid News Group, to bring this leading medtech focused conference and expo to the Midlands for yet another year. The Med-Tech Innovation Expo and Conference provides a fantastic opportunity for our members to network on a national level, with high volumes of visitors, plus exhibitors. The conference provides a superb range of topics with presentations from key industry leaders to inspire and support the med tech community. Medilink UK sits at the heart of industry, academia, Government and the NHS and events such as the Med-Tech Innovation Expo demonstrate how we can help our members and our prominence and influence in the sector.”
Duncan Wood, CEO of Rapid News Group, organisers of Med-Tech Innovation Expo, added: “As always it has been great collaborating with Medilink UK on another extremely successful year. As an organisation we have enjoyed a great relationship with them since 2017 and we look forward to a continued partnership in the coming years.”
Winners of Pitch@Med-Tech Innovation Expo
For the second year running, a packed Introducing Health-Tech Stage witnessed budding start-ups compete to be crowned this year’s Pitch@Med-Tech Innovation Expo winner.
Organised alongside the NIHR, Innovate UK and SBRI, ten start-ups competed against one another as they sought to impress the judges.
This year’s winner was Neuronostics, who beat off fierce competition by showing their capability for revolutionising and diagnosing epilepsy, with a biomarker that reveals seizure risk from apparently normal brain data.
The competition featured innovations which provides longer and better quality of life to brain tumour patients, a provider of remote cancer care, and innovative stents for safer surgical procedures.
Incredible show floor feedback
Feedback from exhibitors on the show floor was extremely positive.
Andy Tibbs, managing director at Boddingtons Plastics said: “Our first day at the show was the best we’ve had in terms of number of enquiries. At any show. And we’re looking forward to coming back next year.”
Adam Farrow, medical devices project manager at JEB Technologies said: “We’ve had an exceptionally busy show, day one was manic at times! It was hard to keep up and we had to keep the stand permanently manned with three people, to help deal with queries. Lots of very useful connections and links made with individuals as well as companies we can partner up with for future development work.”
Matthew Rich, general manager at PolarSeal said: “It’s critical for us to be here, we weren’t expecting to get this much out of the show, but already we’ve had floods of leads, some from people that we already knew, but even more people that we didn’t know before. Med-Tech Innovation Expo is really critical for the industry as it brings so many people together. For us, it’s critical that we’re here to be in front of our customers and potential customers, people get to see the name. The vibe of the show is great, excellent, we’re loving it. We cannot wait to be back for Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2023, looking forward to it!”
Feedback from visitors was equally positive.
Will Morris, design engineer at Haughton Design said: “It’s been fantastic to see the latest trends and innovations at the Med-Tech Innovation Expo at the The NEC, Birmingham this week. It’s also been a great opportunity to catch up with familiar faces as well as meet new suppliers and contacts to help our clients accelerate their medical device development.”
Helena Zaum, social care lead at Microsoft also said: “This year is my first visit to Med-Tech Innovation Expo, so I’ve had a look round and it’s just amazing – all the fantastic gadgets that are here! I’m really excited about that innovation – my real thing is that we should not just think about patients in hospital, but very much think about how we can use technology to enable all of us in our day-to-day lives.”
Anthony Llewellyn, R&D medical device engineer, at Scope Ophthalmics said: “I always look forward to Med-Tech Innovation Expo as a way of reconnecting with old suppliers and previous colleagues and discovering new technologies and opportunities.”
